Important Legislation Affecting Our Hobby
HB52
Antique motor vehicles; eliminates notarization requirements of certain
information thereof.
HB52 was approved by Governor Tim Kaine on 3 March and became law on 1 July 2008. HB52 was introduced in the Virginia legislative session by Delegate L. Scott Lingamfelter (R) - House District 31, to modify 46.2-730. Its original intent was to simply delete the notarization requirement for VSA10B. The bill was amended by the House of Delegates to eliminate the statement that an antique vehicle only had to meet the safety equipment requirements for the year of manufacture of the vehicle. See below: "E. Owners of motor
vehicles and trailers applying for registration pursuant to subsections A, B
and C shall submit to the Department, in the manner prescribed by the
Department, This change will simplify the process for obtaining antique plates by eliminating the notarization requirement for VSA10B. The elimination of subparagraph i will have no practical effect on antique vehicles as it has always been required that antique vehicles be street legal. Those requirements are clearly laid out in the motor vehicle codes. More information can be found on the Virginia Government page of this website. Just look under the section entitled "Motor Vehicle Code For Virginia." |
