Antique Vehicle Registration Antique vehicles in Virginia are registered in accordance with motor vehicle code 46.2-730. This code identifies the safety requirements that must be met and places restrictions on how an antique vehicle can be used. In general: * Vehicles 25 or more years old may be registered as antiques – they do not have to be; * Antique registration RESTRICTS THE USE of the vehicle; - Vehicles registered as antiques CANNOT be used as commercial vehicles; - Vehicles registered as antiques CANNOT be used as daily drivers; - Antique vehicles can be driven to shows and other events and can be used for occasional pleasure driving up to 250 miles from your home; * Antiques do not have to have an annual safety inspection, BUT all vehicles must comply with all safety equipment laws (do not register a vehicle as an antique to keep from making needed repairs to the vehicle) as of the date of manufacture; * You may be ticketed and fined for violating the antique vehicle registration law; *A police officer CAN remove the antique plates from your car for abuse.46.2-730 requires the registered owner of the vehicle to certify that the vehicle may be safely driven on the street, that another means of daily transportation is available to the owner, and that the owner understands and agrees to comply with the law. The Antique Vehicle Certification form, VSA10B is to be used to provide that certification. In order to register an antique vehicle, you must fill out either form VSA17A to obtain a title and register the vehicle (if you do not already have a title) or form VSA14 to register the vehicle (if you already have a title), submit the correct form along with form VSA10B, and pay the one-time, lifetime $50.00 registration fee. State safety or emissions inspections are NOT required to register a vehicle as an antique. Click here for an annotated version of the new law which explains pertinent parts of the law in plain English and answers questions that have been asked about the new law. As I am not a lawyer, this explanation is only my opinion as to the intent of the law and carries no legal weight. Click here for a map of the 250 mile pleasure drive limit (from Centreville, VA)

If so, you need to review the Virginia Solicitation of Contributions Law and determine if it applies to your club. If it does, please act immediately as several clubs have been threatened with $5,000.00 fines by the Commonwealth if they do not comply with the law.
